Athercroft flat-coats include the very first all-breed Best in Show winner in the United States; the first flat-coat to place in the group at the Westminster Kennel Club; and numerous National Specialty winners.  Some of our dogs are in companion hunter homes, others are in competition homes.  However, we feel the most important job a flat-coat can have is to be someone's best friend and a treasured family member.

In the Athercroft tradition, we strive to produce our ideal flat-coated retriever: an elegant, sound, healthy dog with a light-hearted, outgoing, non-aggressive personality; a creative dog that is easy to train, energetic without being hyperactive, and with whom it is easy to live...our definition of a multi-purpose flat-coated retriever.
